Multicultural Arts Victoria presents Slipping Away – a solo exhibition of new works by Polish-Australian artist Dorota Connellan from 14 of November 2014 to 30 January 2015 at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery.
The exhibition features paintings capturing moments of transcendence, where the landscape is composed between the actual and spiritual.
” We can worship the land, bend down before nature, give adoration to Mother Earth. We can allow ourselves the freedom to dream it differently. For the seemingly inevitable downward spiral to give way to the first simple direct steps of a new journey. “
“We live in a moment of possibility. We can begin building new relationships – with other men, other species with ourselves.”
– Dorota Connellan , artist
Slipping Away invites audiences to take a journey of reflection, to imagine and believe, to be inspired, to seek, to discover and choose.
Dorota’s invite us to look around and feel that we are part of one fabulous organism and accept our place among all organisms and to responsibly build a new relationship with Mother Earth.
Dorota’s oil paintings are surreal; they are a deployment of imagination where the landscape and figures blend harmoniously in colourful compositions and atmospheres.
Her works seem to float in an unknown time and space, in a world of dream and imagination.
Connellan has a Master of Philosophy from Poland and arrived in Australia with her daughter and first husband as refugees in 1984.
She now holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Melbourne, completed The Studio Art program at the VCA, studied Tonal Realist oil painting with Don James at Montsalvat in Eltham and paints regularly with her mentor Claude Ciccone. She works with oil on canvas.
After predominantly depicting portraits, still life, landscapes, city architecture and issues of human rights for a number of years, in 2013 Dorota commenced working from imagination creating works which evoke surreal, spiritual and mystical emotional responses.
