Koto Transformation – Australis
June 1, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm$25 – $35
Koto virtuoso, Satsuki Odamura, celebrates thirty years of ground breaking modern koto performance in Australia with a breathtaking fusion concert. The concert brings together international performers of koto and a range of classical and jazz instruments (including saxophone), as well as Japanese butoh (dance).
To celebrate this special occasion, koto master Kazue Sawai will be flying down from Japan to take part in this concert, and she will be joined by koto performers from Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines.
Koto Transformation – Australis features striking, expressive koto performance weaved through sensitively layered Japanese and Australian musical styles. This is a rare opportunity to see masterful musical collaborations that will leave you feeling touched and inspired.
The concert will debut enchanting pieces by leading Australian composers. As Japanese and global sounds blend into one another, enjoy the enriching cultural and musical exchange that characterises Odamura’s innovative career and unmistakable style.
