Multicultural Arts Victoria presents Mapping Melbourne 2016

From December 1-17 the fourth edition of Mapping Melbourne will unfold across the city in a celebration of our unique Asian Australian identity and international creative connections. Transforming spaces with a series of free multi-art form events and exhibitions the festival will profile established and emerging artists from across China, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, India, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Friday 9 & Saturday 10 December

Arts Centre Melbourne Lawn, 100 St Kilda Rd

Cost: Free

A Singapore and Australia dance collaboration between The Arts Fission Company and choreographer Victoria Chiu.

The title FIRE MONKEY refers to the Chinese lunar calendar that marks 2016 as the Year of the Monkey under the element of fire.   The universal myth of fire not only ignites common stories among different cultures, it also enables creative dance making through mapping of ancient memories with contemporary reflections.

Fire Monkey conjures up surreal characters from the realm of mythology in urban getups. This is Asian street theatre of a different kind.
