Black Harmony Forum
March 20, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pmFREE
The second annual Black Harmony Forum will tackle the topic of “cultural stereotypes” and feature lively discussion by a diverse group of artists and thinkers, special performances with delicious food supplied for local social enterprise Charcoal Lane.
2015 Panelists include Kerri-Lee Harding, James Henry, Fablice Manirakiza, Dilruk Jayasinha, who will focus on their professional backgrounds and personal experiences.
At the heart of this forum is to create cross-cultural dialogue about racism in its many forms in an interactive and open space where people can ask questions and learn- hopefully challenging the stereotypes that mainstream media perpetuates.
This forum will examine stereotypes and common perceptions versus reality and fact, people’s reactions to being stereotyped, positive and negative stereotyping and the expectations these put on us as individuals.
How do we break the cycle of stereotypes and how do you react when you hear one?
Be a part of the discussion.
Black Harmony Gathering promotes reconciliation, diversity, social inclusion, respect and the breaking down of racism. Now in its 12th year, the annual Black Harmony Gathering coincides with Victoria’s Cultural Diversity Week celebrations and embraces the principals of reconciliation with a commitment to respect the beliefs and customs of Australia’s First People and newly arrived cultures.
