Tony Yap Company (tyc)

Tony Yap Company (tyc) is an ensemble of culturally diverse independent artists.

Each artist is accomplished in their individual field of artistic discipline and work to create a multi-modal form that is intrinsically international in its artistic language.

The tyc fosters artistic and creative collaborations in the Asian region and profiles Asian Arts in an international context.

tyc with its unique and wide-ranging practice, has a strong history of producing innovative works.

The company is led by Tony Yap, current receipient of the of the Australia Council Dance Fellowship.

Tony Yap has been a leading innovator in the Australian Dance arena and has contributed to the diversity of Dance in Australia.

tyc has recently been awarded the Emerging Key Organisation Grant from the Dance Board ofthe Australia Council for the Arts.

The company is aligned with, and auspiced by the state and federally funded organisation, Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV).

Exploration and creation

tyc is committed to the exploration and creation of an individual dance theatre language that isinformed by psycho-physical research, Asian shamanistic trance dance, Butoh, contemporary sound andmusic, voice and visual design. Ongoing training and exploratory workshops are an integral part of the company’s activities.


tyc emphasises a continuity of engagement through the evolution of collaborative process.

tyc foster and continue artistic and creative collaborations in the Asian region.
