The Polish Art Foundation in partnership with the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery and Multicultural Arts Victoria presents a group exhibition of artists with direct links to Poland who now live and work in Melbourne.

On Wednesday 13 July 2011, the flourishing partnership between Multicultural Arts Victoria and the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery will unveil works from its newest partner, the Polish Art Foundation (PAF).

Titled ‘A GROUP OF 8’ the exhibition will encompass painting, ceramics and sculpture from eight distinct artists who have ties to Poland but call Melbourne home.

The work offers new insights into contemporary art from the Polish diaspora with themes reflecting the Australian landscape, the natural environment and the human form.

The exhibition, at 141 Queen Street, Melbourne, will run from Monday 11th July to Friday 12th August 2011.

A Group of 8

‘A GROUP OF 8’ has been curated by the Polish Art Foundation (PAF), a not-for-profit, voluntary organisation dedicated to showcasing contemporary art in Australia.

Since 1977 the organization has supported artists by promoting their work to the broader Victorian community.

The PAF runs a bi-annual International Drawing Competition (Biennale) which attracts many local and international entries as well as many other activities that bring together artists and art lovers alike.

PAF’s exhibitions have proven a valuable stepping stone for several young artists who are working towards establishing themselves in the Australian art market.

The foundation also works in partnership with other arts bodies and agencies both locally and overseas, supporting a shared dialogue between Australia and Poland and their respective creative histories and experience.

This is the sixth in a series of exhibitions presented by Multicultural Arts Victoria and the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, and each has showcased art and artefacts from distinct ethnic communities and artists. This ongoing partnership aims to build social cohesion and harmony by celebrating the rich cultural and artistic traditions of Victoria’s many ethnic communities.
