igniting imagination - Journeys of Love & More Love Food Sharing Workshop
Tuesday 11 October 2011, 6pm (Free)
Meat Market, Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall
Conference room and studio room B, 521 Queensberry Street,
North Melbourne 3051
motiroti, Melbourne Festival and Multicultural Arts Victoria sought 15-20 participants to be part of a FREE food sharing workshop led by international Artistic Director Ali Zaidi.
No professional cooking or catering experience was required: just a passion for food, for meeting new people and your willingness to bring a dish.
Each participant is asked to bring a dish to the workshop. People will introduce themselves through the food they have prepared and be invited to tell stories of how the ingredients have been prepared in relation to the culture of their community. When all introductions have been made, everyone is invited to tuck in!
Participants were excited and willing to explore ideas to find meeting places and stories of migration and community and how they are present in our dinner plates! They were also interested in exchanging thoughts on how new dishes are emerging, and its effect on what we understand as mainstream Australian cuisine.
The workshop will be filmed by Daybreak Films who will collaborate with Ali Zaidi after the workshop to edit the film for inclusion in the 'Journeys of Love and More Love' shows.
