It is a partnership between Tony Yap Company (TYC), based in Melbourne, Australia and The Javanese Danceworks, based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in association with Multicultural Arts Victoria.
The vision is for the festival to become a hub for collaboration and artistic and cultural exchange for independent artists from Australia and Indonesia, and more broadly across South East Asia, nurturing the development of performing artists in the region

Description (English)
Description (Indonesian)
The genesis of this project is based on an idea originating in mengkolabrasikan, international contemporary dance artists teamed up with the artistic traditions of Indonesia in a bid to gain a closer appreciation of the culture.
In The Arts Island Festival will be held in several cities in Indonesia, in cooperation with several areas such as an art studio in Suklu Klungkung, Bali, Temple Penataran Blitar, Kediri regency Tegalwangi Temple, Site punden Malang and Kediri Arts Village, with the goal of becoming an interactive communication space, including visual, taste and dialogue about art and the environment influenced by various communities from different backgrounds and cultures.
In The Arts Island Festival 2011 is the second time the festival will be held, after 2010 and forms a
collaboration and development of the practice of contemporary dance in Indonesia, Australia, Asia, and
New Zealand, where klaborasi have demonstrated their best works.
They performed and collaborated in
several regions in Indonesia and have developed exquisite spaces that aid in the appreciation of a diverse
society, which has become inspirational in creating a masterpiece.
This is an extraordinary attraction
where there is interaction and meaning within this manifold space, making for a very different experience
involving a collaboration of artists with diverse artistic backgrounds.
Further, collaboration does not stop
at a creative level, but has a broader context and meaning which lasts even after the show finishes
