In Giving Voice: A History of Multicultural Arts Victoria, author Paul Clarkson tells the story of the organisation's four decades of celebrating and promoting cultural diversity in the arts.

Paul Clarkson
Paul Clarkson discusses MAV's past, present and future with ABC Radio Australia's Phil Kafcaloudes.
In 1980, Paul Clarkson was appointed Director of the Victorian Ministry for the Arts (later Arts Victoria), a position he held for 15 years.
During that time he became closely involved with many of the new initiatives in the cultural life of the State of Victoria.
From 1995 to 1997, Paul was Victorian Administrator of Opera Australia and has served as an arts consultant since.
He has held a number of positions on the boards of management of arts organisations and is currently Chairman of the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival and a Director of the John Truscott Design Foundation.
From 1996 to 2010, he was an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University where he lectured on cultural policy. He is the author of Melbourne International Arts Festival 1986-2005: The First 20 Years.
Phil Kafcaloudes

Phil Kafcaloudes
Phil Kafcaloudes is a writer, journalist and broadcaster who hosts an international breakfast show on the ABC's Radio Australia network.
His first book, The ABC All Media Guide to Court Reporting (ABC Books) is now a standard text in many media courses.
His collection of short stories, The Chequered Lady grew from some of the stories he covered as a reporter.
He has written for Limelight magazine, blogs for The Drum and is correspondent for Radio New Zealand's flagship Morning Report.
Phil regularly appears on the News Breakfast on ABC News 24 and Insiders with Barrie Cassidy on ABC1.
In 2007, he was shortlisted for the International Radio Personality of the Year by the Association for International Broadcasting in London.
He lives with his wife in a house full of dogs and music in Melbourne, and is working on a sequel to Someone Else's War.

Giving Voice
An MAV friends and members launch of GIVING VOICE was held on
on March 21st, attended by the Hon Nicholas Kotsiras - Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Heidi Victoria - Parliamentary Secretary for the Arts and Colin Brooks - Member of the State Opposition.
The book provides the reader with a deep insight into the history of Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) that for four decades has undertaken and celebrated cultural diversity in the arts in Australia.
