Multicultural Arts Victoria presents the inaugural Ashiki Afrika youth music festival in the heart of Footscray introduced by international special guest Emmanuel Jal.

In an already packed national tour, Emmanuel Jal will take time out for our local communities and inspire young performers by opening the stage in this special event.

Ashiki Afrika culminates the causes for peace in Africa, peace in our community and pride of culture through music.

Ashiki

Ashiki meaning 'love' in Swahili, will bring out the love for African culture by celebrating identity and story through music and dance.

Featuring young and emerging African Australian musicians and dancers, side by side with youth from our First Nations, neighbouring Pacific nations and all area crew. Come shake it at Ashiki Afrika.

Acts include a welcome dance from Idja Dance Theatre, Congolese big band Jerusalem Gospel Rumba, Burundian hip hop from Fly Bz, hip hop choreography from cultural dance sensations Culture Crew, traditional dance from the Sudanese Children's Dance Group, Sudanese hip hop from Rising High and Sudo Boiz, Sudanese revolution reggae from Rasta Peace Provider, original compositions from Australia's first and only MASSIVE Hip Hop Choir, and more!
