Toumani Diabaté
Channelling equal parts Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix and ancient griot tradition, Toumani Diabaté is credited with bringing the sounds of the kora - a traditional West African 21-string harp - to audiences around the world.
His recording career spans more than 20 years, and includes the Grammy winning album In the Heart of the Moon, recorded with the great Ali Farka Touré.

Symmetric Orchestra
Toumani Diabaté's Symmetric Orchestra is an institution in Mali. Composed of musicians who fuse tradition and innovation, they play a mix of West African instruments including the kora, djembe, balafon and bolombatto alongside guitars and drums.
Jali Buba Kuyateh
The concert will also include special guest Jali Buba Kuyateh.

Jali Buba Kuyateh
Master kora player Jali Buba is part of the famous griot family Kuyateh of Medina Wandifa.
He has been playing kora since the age of ten and is well known for applying his mastery to a range of traditional and contemporary styles such as reggae, salsa, jazz and blues.
He is now living in Australia and will be joined by a band of local performers to support Toumani Diabate`s Symmetric Orchestra.

6.30-8.00pm - In the Stalls Foyer of Hamer Hall enjoy two debut collaborations:
Burgundy Brown with Valanga Khoza and Andrea Watson combining harp, guitar, marimba, percussion and beautifully combined vocals.
Kora Collaborations with Bec Matthews, King Marong, Aminata Doumbia, Lamine Sonko, Richie Brain and Pin Rada.
Woven together with the intricate melodies of the Kora (21 string West African Harp) guitar and other exotic African string instruments this delightful ensemble conveys a story told in 7 languages embellished with playful interaction between the guitar and the Kora.
