Memory: Beyond the Mind

A provocatively, rich, cross-cultural, cross-media exhibition of a dialogue between artists, Dominique Rada (Chilean/Hungarian/Italian), Ajak Kwai (Sudan), King Marong (Gambia), Irine Vela (Greece), Kobya (Carlos) Panguana (Mozambique), Derek Thompson (New Zealand), Kimba Thompson, Derek McCormack (Ireland), Supina Bytol (Christmas Island / Malay) and Kiki Luisetto (Italy).

This work - of the senses - evokes memories and how language, objects, smells, sounds and textures connect us with memories and feelings subconsciously and explores the relationship between memories and identity; how 'sense-memories' connect us with our sense of place and belonging in a changing, contemporary world.

The works include video and sound installations, photography and interactive performance with music and food preparation, drawing on diverse cultural contexts, transcending cultural boundaries, where our senses unlock our cultural memories, regardless of our origins.

Dominique Rada

"Memory: Beyond the Mind" project is devised and produced by visual artist Dominique Rada under the mentorship of Award Winning Irine Vela and Kavisha Mazzella.

The vision of this presentation is a follow on from Dominique's previous sensory memory collaborative exhibition Glovesick shown as part of the 2006 Melbourne Fringe Festival, with musician and sound artist Derek McCormack.
