Participants from six cultural groups (Indian, East Timorese, Peruvian, Sudanese, Turkish and Vietnamese) living on and around the Estate, developed designs that reflect their own experiences and cultural traditions.
Fatma Barat and Firdevs Gunes
The women collaborated, sharing their experiences of love, and cultural traditions of marriage, to create a series of individual ring cushions for exhibition in the City of Yarra, and subsequently on display in the Old Treasury Building, and available to the wide range of couples to choose for their civic marriage ceremonies at the Victorian Marriage Registry.
The project was developed and implemented by Community Producer, Marion Crooke with the support of Liss Gabb, Manager, Arts and Culture at North Richmond Community Health Centre and Denise Rundle, Manager of Boroondara Kindergarten, where the project was based.
