New Heartlands 2010 Exhibition features works by refugee artists entered in the inaugural New Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize.

The works on display include paintings, drawings, mixed media and photographic works.

Responding to the eponymous theme New Heartlands, visual artists from refugee backgrounds take centre stage in this exciting exhibition as their broad human experience, creative expression and positive, ongoing social contributions are recognised, valued and celebrated.

Invitation to Opening - 6-8pm Tuesday 6 November

Opening night will see the 1st , 2nd , 3rd , 4th Prizewinners and eight Honourable Mentions officially announced and awarded.

With a well deserved share in the record $9,400.00 prize pool, winning artists have a unique opportunity to further their artistic output and career aspirations, as either emerging or established artists.

New Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize

The inaugural judging panel which shortlisted the works included Adam Baxter (Communications Manager, AMES), Merrin Eirth (Drawing Coordinator & Senior Lecturer, Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne), Jill Morgan (Executive Officer, Multicultural Arts Victoria), Gina Panebianco (Head of Education & Public Programs, National Gallery of Victoria), and Patrice Pauc (Director, Alliance Franšaise de Melbourne).

AMES and Multicultural Arts Victoria have collaborated closely with artists and communities during this first edition of the prize, and are delighted to present New Heartlands 2010 Exhibition with the support of the Alliance Franšaise de Melbourne.
