As part of the UNITE Festival 2009, Multicultural Arts Victoria presents 'Do the Right Thing' - an exploration of music and culture as instruments for social change through Discussion, Performance and workshops.

MCK

Do the Right thing brings together a panel of young culturally diverse community arts leaders from all over Australia to create a dialogue around the Human Rights issues facing young people from emerging communities and disadvantaged backgrounds and to look at how music, art, performance and culture can act as a vehicle toward healing, having a voice and creating real and meaningful social change.

Artists

Special guests invited to speak on the panel include Yarrie and Isatah, two young dancers, MC's and vocalist from Sydney representing the Marrickville based Sierra Leone performance group and who rap about their experiences of war in their mother land.

Also on the panel are young Somalian’s Ramla and Lucky representing the Adelaide based GO-GO Performance project, Big Dubs - a young Sudanese rapper from Melbourne, Claudia and Jorge representing the Mi Amigo International - an art exchange project between Australian and Colombian young people, and Nik Mackay from the Key Change Music project.

Guest performers and workshop presenters include Mondli, a South African born Zulu dancer, actor and Opera Singer who has toured the world's stage in productions such as 'The Mighty Zulu Nation, with theatre companies such as 'The Pride of the Zulu'.
