"Musical mavericks often reject the past; this Colombian electro-rock duo is dragging its traditions into the present, marinating its songs in South American rhythms. Aterciopelados take north-of-the border musical styles - rock, pop and punk - and breathe new life into them, all while giving them a distinctly Colombian sheen." Time Magazine

Aterciopelados
Aterciopelados (Ah-tair-see-oh-pel-ah-dos) is renowned for creating poetry on stage, fusing alternative rock with a variety of Colombian and Latin American musical traditions to create a unique rock sound that is exceptionally accessible.
Fans from all cultural backgrounds resonate with the band's impassioned, socially conscious signature organic rock sound in shows that feature their trademark songs of protest, life and humanity.
The source of Aterciopelados' musical genius is the long time creative relationship between vocalist/guitarist Andrea Echeverri and bassist/arranger Hector Buitrago. The two annex and combine styles with a healthy disregard for musical boundaries: new wave, lounge, reggae, bossa nova, electro, hard rock, bolero, Mexican banda, house, rumba-rock and straightforward pop anthems, not to mention surf-rock guitar lines.
Echeverri and Buitrago will be accompanied by some of the best rock musicians from Colombia. If you want to see one of the big contemporary rock bands from Latin America, be sure not to miss on this one. Their eighth critically-acclaimed album 'Rio' - "worthy of both its era and your time" (Pitchfork) - which they are showcasing during this tour, builds upon the creative momentum of 'Oye', which won them a Latin GRAMMY.
"The miracle of Aterciopelados is that it backs up its message songs with beautiful, infectious music... 'Rio' is no exception." - BILLBOARD
Kimbaya
Support band Kimbaya revolves around the brand new musical collaboration between Melbourne based Colombian songbird, Rose Páez and pianist, Vashti Sivell.
Together they entwine the sound of Latin American rhythms with jazz and contemporary sounds.
Moving to Australia from Colombia in 2000, Rose Páez channels the diverse musical styles of her homeland whilst Vashti Sivell is a classically trained pianist who studied Jazz Piano and then passionately embraced Latin music.
Kimbaya launched their first album in September of this year.
