Experience internationally acclaimed virtuosi Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Ensemble in their performance of traditional Sufi, folk and contemporary music from Turkey and the Middle East.
Honoured as a peacemaker and virtuoso, Tekbilek's work transcends political boundaries while maintaining traditional sensibilities in a way few artists can manage. A multi-instrumentalist par excellence, he has collaborated with a number of leading musicians of international repute such as jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, keyboard player Karl Berger and ex-Cream rock drummer Ginger Baker.
OMAR FARUK TEKBILEK
Turkish virtuoso Omar Faruk Tekbilek was born into a family of musicians but for some years studied to become an Imam and is deeply influenced by Sufi mysticism.
He performs on many instruments including the ney (bamboo flute), baglama (long necked lute), percussion and oud.
For these concerts he brings his full band of musicians from USA, Turkey, Greece and Israel, reflecting his own personal quest to explore not only the various styles of Turkish music but many other Mediterranean forms as well.
Omar Faruk Tekbilek recently released a new album, Tree of Patience.
