INDONESIA Pusaka with the Punakawan Quartet
Celebrated pianist Jaya Suprana will escort Melbourne audiences on a rich musical journey through the Indonesian archipelago.
Joined by guitarist Jubing Kristanto, percussionist Junaedi Musliman and bass player Heru Kusnadi, Punakawan Quartet specialises in the timeless sufi music of Indonesia, presented with a very contemporary style.
Part concert, part lecture, Indonesia Pusaka introduces the music from some 120 ethnic groups in a magnificent tribute to this diverse country.
Suprana vividly communicates the joy of Indonesian music as he guides the audience from Aceh to Batak lands, to Padang and to Sunda, and on to Central Java and Ambon.
Fine Blue Thread
Fine Blue Thread, a new collaboration of Ria Soemardjo (vocals, viola), Helen Mountford (cello) and Sam Evans (tabla), merging the sounds of the Indonesian region with a distinctive modern Melbourne style, will be the opening performance.
