‘Thirty pieces in all (including a twenty-piece horn section), The Melbourne Ska Orchestra may be the largest aggregation of its kind ever gathered on one stage anywhere in the world.‘ The Deep End, Radio National 2003

FEATURED ARTISTS

A performance by the Melbourne Ska Orchestra is no mere gig - it’s a rare event, a landmark, a roaring Ska/Reggae summit of biblical proportions. This ambitious venture, the brainchild of PBS FM announcer Mohair Slim, is led by Melbourne’s irrepressible master of groove, Nicky Bomba and features a veritable who’s who of local Jazz, Reggae and Ska talent including members of Skazz, the Trojan Horns, The Moonhops, The Pachuco Playboys, Bomba and the Ska Vendors.

It’s been a while since the MSO last hit the stage in Feb 2006 with special guest Carlos Malcolm (Jamaica) for a sell out show at the Prince Bandroom. This much anticipated return will see them join for the first time with some of the hottest local African and Caribbean artists including Diafrix MCs Azmarino and Momo, Haitian born soul songstress Nadee, Senegambian griot musician Jali Buba Kuyateh and the African Royal Drummers from Ghana, lending new sounds and flavours to the genre.

Indigenous Jamaican music was born in the ghettos of Kingston in the early 1960s. The Melbourne Ska Orchestra explores 40 years Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae including skanking favourites by The Skatalites, Prince Buster, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Madness and The Specials.

MSO has been renowned for breaking venue attendance records at past shows (and turning away many disappointed fans!) so get in early and book your tickets NOW!

As is MSO tradition, the men are expected to dress sharp and the ladies glamorous - with special prizes for best-dressed rude boy and rude girl! Bonus points for trilbies or pork-pie hats...
