New Scool Rulez - Stage 3 August - September 2007

Presented by Multicultural Arts Victoria's Connect Youth Program.

New Scool Rulez

NEW SCOOL RULEZ

Using the model of the New Scool Rulez at Maribyrnong in 2006, MAV opened discussion with six different councils to make space and identify the need of a positive hip hop event in their local area and the need to make their FReeZA committees more diverse and engage newly settled youth. While working closely with the Monash City Council FReeza Committee got the young people from Southern Ethnic Advisory Advocacy Council (SEAAC) to join forces in organizing the event together.

These all ages hip hop events will act as a cultural platform to develop confidence, self esteem, performance skills and performance opportunities for those involved in the Connect program. The events also aim to provide a sense of belonging and pride in their peers for youth in surrounding communities. Participants will perform at the New Scool Rulez youth events alongside well known local musicians in collaboration with the following councils: Monash, Darebin, Moonee Valley and Hobson Bay.
