Te Roopu Ataawhai Inc will be show casing New Zealand culture at Festival New Zealand 2007. As part of the celebrations, traditional Polynesian Outrigger Canoes known as Waka Ama will be exhibited on the Yarra River by Polynesian youth aged between 12 and 19 years of age. The exhibition will be followed by races between members of the Footscray and Patterson Lakes Outrigger Clubs.

A cultural concert featuring Tongan, Samoan, Niuean and Maori performers will be the prelude to the Youth Entertainment segment on Main Stage, Fed Square. The ever exciting fUSIAN dance troupe will be joined by Diafrix, Karl & Lina, XSide Boys, PolyNation and other fantastic performers. Te Pakanga (Battle of the Voice) Talent Quest has been running since May and the six Grand Finalists will strut their stuff on stage. The winner will be selected by the audience on the day.

Brown Roots Collective, Diafrix African Hip Hop Outfit, fuSIAN Pacific Hip Hop Dance Alliance and AKA Brown Productions have joined forces to share their music and dance skills with young people from the African and Pacific communities in Moonee Valley and Hobsons Bay as part of the ‘Urban AfterShock project’. Performances by participants of the Urban AfterShock project will be debuted at the Festival NZ Celebrations held in Federation Square(see below)

Food stalls selling traditional Polynesian fare will be in abundance as will Art & Craft stalls where everyone will be able to find a bargain or two. This bi-annual Festival attracted 50,000 people in 2005 and organizers encourage everyone, especially those with a New Zealand or Polynesian background to join in the fantastic celebrations.
