This stunning two week festival is a joyous celebration of the richness of culture and talent from Africa, Afghanistan and Kurdistan that has recently come alive in Melbourne.

Three non stop stages of unique world music and dance performances, a vibrant cultural marketplace, the aromas of an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, an intimate evening of story and song from all over Africa, a fun packed soccer carnivale, a hip hop dance battle and slam dunk competition, and a mentorship music project VISIBLE featuring artists such as Nicky Bomba, Kavisha Mazzella, Diafrix & Valanga Khoza, are just some of the highlights of this year’s Emerge Festival.
Attracting full house audiences in past years, the Emerge Festival commemorates United Nations World Refugee Day.

The festival will be launched with an evening of Story and Song at the magnificent Fitzroy Town Hall Reading Room on Friday June 16th 7.30pm. Tales of life in Africa and new lives in Australia will be told by South African born singer/stoyteller Valanga Khoza, Somali poet Yusuf Sheikh Omar, Sudanese singer Ajak Kwai and the recently arrived Synodos, ten young men from Sudan who tell stories through theatre and hip hop.
