Sound incredible? It’s true. Tulipomania swept Holland in the 17th century and tulip bulbs were
worth their weight in gold.

The Turkish Weekend organized by the Australian Turkish Cultural Platform is a tribute to the
origins of the tulip. Come to Tesselaar and learn how it all began.

May people will be surprised to learn that the tulip originated in Turkey and Asia Minor, and was
regarded as a symbol of wealth. They were also traded on the Stock Exchange.

Want to learn more about the fascinating history of the tulip and where it all began in Turkey?

Come to Tesselaar and see how the Dutch transformed a wild flower into one of the world’s most
treasured beauties of nature. You will also enjoy a wide range of Turkish music, dance and of
course a belly dancer.

Each day is packed with entertainment. Turkish Delight is not the only delight to tempt your taste
buds. There’s the kebab, gozleme and a variety of pastry dishes from Turkey.

Artists will present Ottoman Jewellery, calligraphy and glass work. Marvel at the
mighty Mehter Military Band, the only one outside of Turkey, a parade of traditional and modern
Turkish fashion and the famous Hacivat and Karagoz Shadow puppet show.

Children’s activities include tulip painting on windows, face painting and prizes for the best costume.

Try a cup of Turkish coffee and then have your fortune told from the sediment. It’s fun and who
knows, you may be surprised to learn what the future holds.

There’s dancing, music and a chance to learn about Turkey from a travel expert.
