A concert featuring Australian based music divas from Indonesian,
Italian, Greek, Vietnamese and El Salvadorian cultures. Performing
original and traditional music, these artists highlight the incredible
quality and wealth of music in this country.
Be transported by the evocative power of world music. This unique
concert features five outstanding culturally diverse performances
and is a rare opportunity for the people of Melbourne to experience
in optimum acoustic conditions the musical traditions of some
of our unique cultures based now in Melbourne.

Ria Soemardjo -Indonesia –
exquisite vocals
Born in Melbourne of Australian/Indonesian descent, Ria
distinctive vocal style is shaped by her love of traditional
Asian and eastern European music as well as an inventive
and eclectic approach to improvisation. She is the only
female performer of Javanese song in Melbourne and has recorded
a CD of original and traditional song.

Ileana Posas - El Salvador –
vibrant Latino jazz
Ileana was born into a musical family in El Salvador. A
popular and well-known singer in El Salvador since the age
of 12, Ileana kept having success as a solo artist as well
as becoming a familiar face on Salvadorian television. In
July 2004, Ileana recorded four of her songs at the ABC
studios in Melbourne. These four tracks were then broadcast
on Radio National’s ‘Music Deli’ in August
2004. This is the first time Ileana will perform live her
original songs for Music Deli.

Dang Kim Hien - Vietnam – ethereal spiritual
music
Hien is regarded as one of the leading master-performers
of the Vietnamese zither dan tranh in the world and is an
accomplished vocalist. Since migrating to Australia in late
1994, Hien has not only been active in performing Vietnamese
music, but also participated in creating cross-cultural
music.

Kavisha Mazzella & Irini Vela –
Italy/Greece– contemporary world music
ARIA award winning singer songwriter Kavisha Mazzella has
a hauntingly beautiful voice, capable of both power and
nuance. Singing in Italian and English, she sings traditional
Italian folk and contemporary original songs in English
that are inspired from her rich Celtic-Eurasian heritages.
Kavisha will be accompanied by talented Greek musician Irini
Vela.

Susannah Coleman-Brown will be joining the Deli Divas
Susannah is a singer/songwriter/guitarist
from Tasmania now living and performing in Melbourne. Her
performances are intimate yet full of energy and sincerity.
Susannah has a Bachelor of Music Performance (Voice/Improvisation)
from the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2003 Susannah
was awarded a John Vickery Scholarship from the College
and in 2004 she received a Mabel Kent Singing Award and
the prestigious Gwen Nisbet Music scholarship.
