Nusra Latif Qureshi
A revival of miniature painting - historical forms with present-day imagery. My recent work attempts to question the historic mis-representations in the history of colonies and postcolonies. My intention has been to question the expectations towards musaviri-the tradition of painting, its authenticity and push the defined borders further in order to include the so called unconventional elements in the practice.

My interest persists in the potential of traditional devices and historic images as a means of articulating contemporary issues. I am particularly working with ‘otherness’ in the context of post/pro-colonialism.

The layers present in my work refer to a layering of identity, to history where the roots of identity lie and to the present, which marks my movements. My presence as a woman, as an Asian, as a Muslim, as a migrant, as an ex-colonised, as a dark skinned individual and as a painter determine the course of images I make.
