Mitra Malekzadeh was
born and grew up in Iran where she completed her B.A., double majoring
in Sociology and Psychology. In 1987 she migrated to Australia and completed
her M.A. in Sociology. She taught Sociology in Monash University for
7 years.
Feeling trapped and disenchanted with academia, she resigned and started
writing short stories, some of which have been published on the Internet.
While continuing her writing, in the last three years she has been studying
and working as a photographer. She has had three exhibitions so far.
In her artwork she creates images with several layers; eg: form, lighting,
composition and design intertwined with spiritual concepts. In other
words she has tried to represent the life’s images into a more
conceptual theme. Her design for presentation of her works is almost
an installation as it is not quite two or three- dimensional.
‘If eyes are the window to our souls then the hands are the voice’,
Was her statement in her last exhibition in Melbourne where her theme
was “The Rhythm of Life”.
‘Every piece of us, and the world around us is talking with its
own unique voice. They are showing the way to the unity and trust us
with their existence. How much of that trust we have actually honoured
so far?’
This question is the core of her artworks mixed with a strong Persian
flavour, which is her cultural heritage.
