The Viet Boys from Down Under

The Viet Boys from Down Under, directed by Huu Tran and starring Dominic Golding, Rad Rudd and Khanh Nguyen, is a cross-cultural and experimental multimedia theatre project. Told through poetry, lullaby, music, martial arts and karaoke, Viet Boys reflects Vietnamese youth sub-cultures, explores male sexuality, power, and depression in cosmopolitan Melbourne. Viet Boys focuses on the journey of Smithy, an orphan from Vietnam, Brad who is half-Aussie and half- Vietnamese, and Van a migrant and struggling Melbourne film director. Together, three different Viet Boys search for love, identity, work and friendship in a city where culture and multiculturalism can mean two very different things.

Huu Tran completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Media Arts and Drama at Deakin University in 1999. He has worked with Tony Le Nguyen on many projects including Chay Vong Vong, Maribyrnong Artists Project (MAP), Lieu Mang, Big West Festival and Vietnamese Youth Media. In 1999, he was asked to direct a component of Melbourne Workers Theatre production Tower of Light with Suzie Dee.

Dominic Golding graduated with Honours in Directing and Politics in 1999, Flinders University. Dominic contributed work to the Exhibition Lost & Found (Immigration Museum of Victoria and Koorie Heritage Trust).
