RuCL aka Rueben Campbell raps and toasts in Jamaican hip hop reggae dance hall style tradition. A new young and emerging musician, Ruben puts out a strong social message, his work being highly respected by his contemporaries.
RuCL’s debut CD, Guerilla Style Tacticsl, celebrates his Jamaican roots in both style and content. His songs address issues which challenge consciousness, personal, political and spiritual.
“Written in the heat of a political campaign, the recording was intended to be a positive response to the misinformation and indignities some minorities have to endure,” RuCL said. “It is a tribute to Aboriginal Australians in particular.”
Guerilla Style Tactics received national and local airplay with the film clip being played on Rage, MTV and Channel 31.
RuCL was nine years old when he started playing percussion and twelve when he began writing songs for his first hip hop group, Rub-CJ. He visited Jamaica for the first time in 1995 and returned two years later to study voice and percussion at the Jamaican School of Music.
He is percussionist for a group called Jamaica Irie, a cultural theatre education show performed in schools and festivals. He has supported Mad Professor and Spikee Tee at the Prince of Wales.
RuCL performs live with jazz hiphop band, Disasterware and Plutonic Lab and is currently working on his much anticipated album.
