Richard Frankland
Best known from his days in the Koori act DJAAMBI which featured members
of Tiddas. Richard has been doing a variety of works in the performing
arts, producing and directing films as well as forming his new band, Richard
Frankland and the New Senate. Richard is an accomplished singer/songwriter.
Richards' song 'WHO MADE ME WHO I AM' is a great song which features his
mentor Paul Hester on drums.
Richard Frankland is one of Australia_s most experienced Indigenous singer/song
writer filmakers. Born on the coast in South-West Victoria, Richard has
worked as a soldier, fisherman, and Field Officer during the Royal Commission
into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
His work on the Royal Commission lead to his appearance in the award winning
Australian documentary WHO KILLED MALCOLM SMITH.
In 1993 Richard co-wrote and directed his first documentary with John
Foss titled SONGLINES. That same year they formed GOLDEN SEAHORSE PRODUCTIONS.
Since then Richard has written, directed and produced a wide range of
video, documentary and film projects including the award winning WHO KILLED
MALCOLM SMITH, NO WAY TO FORGET, AFTER MABO and HARRY_S WAR.
Richard is also an acclaimed musician whose music features on the soundtracks
to many of his films. In 1991 his first band DJAAMBI supported PRINCE
on his Australian Tour.
In 2001 Richard formed THE CHARCOAL CLUB with Andy Baylor and recorded
their debut CD titled MEETING ONE which has been released through TARAM
RECORDS.
Richard has also written for and performed on stage. In 2002 he wrote
and directed the award winning play CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEAD. In 2003
his stage show AN EVENING WITH RICHARD FRANKLAND was performed at the
Sydney Opera House.
Since 1991 Richard has delivered a wide range of cross-cultural awareness
speeches and workshops to business, government and educational instituitions.
Through GSP EDUCATION workshops can be designed to suit a wide range of
needs.
Richard is currently working on a number of feature film and documentary
projects.
