Maza Sisters
Rachael and Lisa Maza are a formidable duo who have been singing and playing
music together for most of their lives. When the sisters are not playing
music both have professional acting careers.
Rachael spent a few years in Perth honing her acting skills at WAAPA.
Following graduation she moved back to Sydney where the family grew up
and met up with sister Lisa and their friend Lisa Fitzgibbon and formed
Nerkep (Heart in Mer language; Meriam Mer).
The Maza family come from the Torres Strait Island of Mer and from the
Yidinji of Queensland
With mostly original material they played many memorable gigs including
Survival Day Concert in Sydney, the Moree Football Knockout and at the
Indigenous Club “Rail and Cane” run by Lisa and their late
father Bob Maza.
Following the birth of Rachaels’ son, Ariel, Melbourne was to become
‘home’. When Lisa finished her Australian wide tour of Musical
“Corrugation Road”, she also moved to Melbourne.
In between all the various bands, vocal groups, and acting work over the
years the sisters have never stopped singing together.
