Ushanthini Sripathmanathan's Natyalayaa (Indian Dance)
is an Indian Classical dance school which was established in 1990 in Melbourne, Victoria. It commenced with 5 students, and over the years, the school has grown on large number of enrolments. The school specializes in teaching and promoting Indian Dance. It has also presented a variety of folk dance, dance dramas and special public performances.
The school boasts of a strong community involvement and has been generous in offering a number of fund-raising events, and has co-ordinated with other communities for producing successful dance events. Its high standards and virtuosity brought an opportunity to hold a day long workshop, collaborating contemporary dance with Indian dance for ‘Ausdance’. The school continued to gain further recognition by producing 7 graduates, where the audience overwhelmingly packed the auditoriums. The school gained reputation for its’ highly acclaimed fine dancing performances, and was invited to perform on Australia Day, Sumnation Festival, Boite Winter Festival, Big West Festival, Darebin Festival and has been invited to perform at the Melbourne Fringe 2005. During the past 14 years, the school has been conducting regular weekly classes in Dandenong, Glen Waverley and Preston. The school showcased regular dance BALLET(S) SAKUNTHALA (The Ring of Recollection) 2004, GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS (2005) (Funded by Monash Arts Council and City of Boroondara), Rhythms of Games (2006), Tales of Women (2006) (Funded by City of Boroondara for next year). |
