Kita was set up in 2001 by Box Hill Institute performing arts lecturer Kim Dunphy and three of her graduate students of Asian backgrounds. Nixson Eduard, Seung Hi Lee and Sabrina Wei-Lung Chou had been professional dancers in their countries of origin before coming to Australia for dance education studies. Their performing expertise and teaching skills, combined with Kim's background in arts education and management made for a great team, and Kita was born. The Kita team has since been joined by Soo-Yeun You, who brings expertise in Korean traditional dance and culture, and our newest member, Soepri Soehodo, who joins us this year for the first time, brings years of experience as an Indonesian teacher, as well as performing skills in a range of dance styles.
