The Congo Boys
The Congo Boys formed as a band in Kinshasa City, Democratic Republic
of Congo, in early 1999. The Congo Boys joined together as one group
featuring the best musicians and dancers from some of Congo’s
most notable performing groups. All performers have toured extensively
in Africa and throughout the world.
The Congo Boys specialise in presenting a range of contemporary and
traditional African music and dance styles, including Soukous, Merengue,
Sharanga, Ruand Mbuka-mbuka (Kimboka) music and dance. They come together
on stage in a dynamic and exciting moving showcase of great African
music and dance entertainment.
The Congo Boys present a spectacular African concert that encompasses
the history of African music from traditional drumming to modern Afro
pop music and dance. Congo Boys present a night of feverish music, song
and dance that makes them one of the most captivating music and dance
acts in Australia.
Since arriving in Australia in mid-2001, the Congo Boys have performed
at Melbourne’s local festival and club circuit. They recently
launched an CD demo EP (2 tracks). Led by singer and percussionist Patrice
Lumumba and singer guitarist Etienne, Congo Boys are a highly portable
group whose size varies from 9 up to 12 members; 6 musicians and 3 to
6 dancers depending on the size of the show they perform.
