Afghan Performers for Hope
Dancing for hope, for peace and sharing the truth about their homeland was the reason behind forming the Afghan Performers for Hope a few years ago. All members are Afghan Australians who fled their country as children.
The Afghani Performers For Hope are inspired to help change the world through performance, to share the great aspects of Afghani culture, to gain support for peace in Afghanistan, and expand the world’s perceptions of Afghani people and culture.
“Our hope for today’s Afghan children is the memory of our own childhood,” leading performer Homaira said.
“For the last 23 years Afghan people have experienced war and destruction, leaving approximately two thirds the country in ruins. Millions of children are on the streets of Afghanistan without shelter.”
The impact of September 11 on Afghan communities around the world has been profound, encouraging the dance group to be active and positive, to share and express the realities of Afghanistan today.
“The hope of our group is for every Australian to truly know the real Afghans and not to involve politics with the ordinary citizens of Afghanistan,” Hoaira said.
“We see Australia as our home and as we were all born in Afghanistan, we still feel that we owe that traumatized land a lot of love, affection and participation in rebuilding it.“
